Palm Cockatoos Enamel Pin

Regular price $17.00

The Palm cockatoo, also known as the Goliath cockatoo, is a large greyish black parrot native to rainforests and woodlands of New Guinea, Aru Islands, and Cape York Peninsula in far north Queensland. These guys exhibit a large almost spikey looking crest, along with a large black beak and patches of red skin on their cheeks. It has the second largest beak of any parrot in the world, just behind the Hyacinth macaw. The Beak of the palm cockatoo is interesting as its shape prevents them form ever fully closing their beak, however it is perfect for cracking open nuts.

We perched these guys on a Beach almond tree (Terminalia catappa) which Palm cockatoos are known to enjoy. These trees have long been naturalised extending from Africa to northern Australia and New Guinea through southeast Asia and Micronesia into the Indian subcontinent.
