Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos Enamel Pin

Regular price $17.00

The Yellow-tailed Black-Cockatoo is a large cockatoo found in south-eastern Australia, from Eyre Peninsula, South Australia to south and central eastern Queensland. They prefer native temperate forests, while also being ubiquitous in pine plantations, and occasionally in urban areas, as long as there is a plentiful food supply. Yellow-tails have short crests with a plumage that is mostly brownish black with prominent yellow cheek patches and a yellow tail band. The body feathers are edged with subtle yellow giving a scalloped appearance. The adult male has a black beak and pinkish-red eye-rings, and the female has a bone-coloured beak and grey eye-rings.

We perched this pair on a Banskia Tree (banksia serrata) which is native to the east coast of Australia, from Queensland to Victoria with outlying populations in Tasmania. Yellow tails enjoy the seed pods of these trees.
