The American Kestrel is the smallest raptor in America with an average wingspan of about 51-61cm and is found in abundance throughout North and South America.
In recent years their numbers have begun to decline, though no one really knows why. It is possible that this could be a result of habitat loss and competition for nesting sites from introduced species.
Did you know? These beautiful tiny Falcons are sexually dimorphic and can be told apart by their plumage as early as three weeks of age. The males have blue-gray wings, with a single black bar on their tail feathers. The females have reddish-brown wings with black barring and many black bars on their tail feathers, they are also about 10-15% larger than the male. Our pin design is based on the male American Kestrel.
