The Andean Condor is known for having the longest wingspan of any raptor with an average of 3m. They are mainly found within the Andes Mountain range along the Pacific coast region of western South America.
The Andean Condor is considered near threatened and is actually endangered in a handful of South American countries. The biggest threats to this beautiful vulture are loss of habitat and a lack of adequate food. They are also, like many other raptors, still shot and poisoned by farmers.
Did you know? They are the national bird for several South American countries including Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, and Ecuador. They also play an important role in the folklore of the Andean regions and are even a part of indigenous Andean religions.
