Australian White Ibis Enamel Pin

Regular price $16.00

The Australian White Ibis (Threskiornis molucca) is a native Australian wading bird known for their black featherless head, white plumage and long, down-curved bill. You may know this beautiful bird by its unfortunate nickname, the Bin Chicken, which stems from its ability to adapt to urban areas because of habitat loss in inland areas. Despite their nickname, the Ibis is a vital natural predator of insects. The Australian White Ibis is one of three native Ibis species found in Australia.

We decided to position the Ibis in water, surrounded by Austral Rush (Juncus australis), a species of rush native to South-Eastern Australia, to represent the White Ibises natural habitat.

Fun Fact: The White Ibis was once revered by some First Nations groups and has served as a symbol of drought resilience in inland communities.
