Blue-tongue Lizard Hard Enamel Pin

The Common Blue-tongue Skink (Tiliqua scincoides), better known as the Blue-tongue Lizard, is a big skink with a stumpy, rounded body and that iconic blue tongue. They’re slow-moving ground-dwellers, often found foraging through leaf litter and a familiar sight in Aussie backyards. Their diet is varied, from insects and snails to fruit, berries and flowers.

There are three subspecies: the Eastern Blue-tongue (eastern Australia), the Northern Blue-tongue (northern Australia) and the Tanimbar Blue-tongue (Indonesia). Because they’re so widespread, colouring, behaviour and small features vary from region to region. Our design is based on the Eastern Blue-tongue, commonly found throughout NSW.

Fun fact: Blue-tongues give birth to live young, fully formed and ready to explore. The babies head off on their own just days after being born. A typical litter is up to around 15, but the record is a whopping 25. (Poor Mumma!)
