Blue-tongued Lizard Enamel Pin

Regular price $16.00

The common Blue-tonged Skink, aka Blue Tongue Lizard is a large skink with a stumpy rounded body and an iconic blue tongue. They are slow moving ground dwelling lizards who can be found foraging through leaf litter and are a common sight in backyards. They eat a number of things including insects, fruits and berries. There are 3 subspecies in this family being the Eastern Blue-tonged Skin ( Eastern Aus ), Northern Blue-tonged Skink ( Northern Aus ) and the Tanimbar Blue-tonged Skin ( Indonesia ) As this Lizard is wide spread, colorations, behavior and minor characteristics vary between regions. Our design here focuses on the Eastern variation commonly found throughout NSW.

Fun Fact: Blue tongues have live baring young, which means that their baby skinks are birthed fully formed and ready to start walking around. They wander off from their mother just 4 days after they are born. Mother skinks can have up to 15 babies in one go with the highest recorded litter at a whooping 25. ( Poor Mumma! )
