Wild Budgie Hard Enamel Pin

Budgerigars, better known as budgies, are native to the dry grasslands of mainland Australia. These nomadic parrots usually travel in flocks of anywhere from a handful to around 100, but after good rains, their numbers can boom into the thousands! This pin shows a wild male budgie, in his natural green and yellow, perched on native grass seed. You can tell adult males and females apart by the colour of their cere (the nose area above the beak): blue for males, pinkish-brown for females.

Fun fact: A budgie’s bold black barring is thought to work as camouflage in motion. When hundreds of them fly together, the stripes blur, making it much harder for a bird of prey to lock onto a single target.
