Pied Currawong Enamel Pin

Regular price $16.00

The Pied Currawong (Strepera graculina) is a large native Australian songbird, most recognisable by its bright yellow eyes and distinctive loud call. You can find Pied Currawongs across eastern Australia, from Cape York in QLD all the way down to Victoria. Many people mistake these majestic birds for Australian Magpies, despite only sharing minor similarities. They are an opportunistic bird and have adapted well to the suburban environment.

We perched the Currawong on a native Black Plum (Diospyros australis), a medium-sized tree found in Australian rainforests. The fruits on these trees are a common food source for the Pied Currawong.

Fun Fact: The Pied Currawong has an onomatopoeic name, derived from its distinctive loud call that sounds like "curra-wong". In Latin, strepera means "noisy". In both cases, this beautiful bird is named after the noises it makes.
