Princess Parrot Enamel Pin

Princess Parrots ( Polytelis alexandrae ), Also known as Rose-throated parakeets, Spinifex Parrots or Queen Alexandra Parrots, are nomadic parrots native to Australia. They're actually one of Australia's least known parrots as they are rather elusive and reside in arid areas of central Australia, mainly in WA and NT. They can be found among arid woodlands, scrublands and sand dunes where they feed on the seeds of grasses and shrubs. When breeding season arrives, several pairs of Princess parrots will come together to form small breeding colonies, favoring the hollows of Eucalyptus trees that line watercourses. These birds are opportunistic breeders and only breed when conditions are favorable which can be a tricky balance for life in the outback!

This design is modeled after a male Princess Parrot. We perched this Princess parrot on some native Mulla Mulla ( Ptilotus exaltatus ) which is a desert plant with a stunning floral display! 

Fun Fact: These parrots know how to stand up to a bully! The flock will engage in mobbing behavior to drive out unwanted guests which is a rare behavior seen in parrots.
