Splendid Fairywren Enamel Pin
The Splendid Fairywren, also know as the 'Blue Wren' in Western Australia, Is a small passerine in the Australasian wren family. Splendid Fairywrens are relatively widespread throughout Australia ranging from central-western New South Wales and southwestern Queensland over to coastal Western Australia. Unlike their Superb Fairywren cousins which have benefited from urban areas due to introduced plant habitats like blackberry shrubs and lantana , Splendid wrens have not adapted well to urbanization and have disappeared from many urban areas all together. Males and females are sexually dimorphic, with males being various shades of blue with patches of black and grey and females being mostly greyish brown with a blueish-tinted tail.
Fun Fact: Males will pick pink or purple flower petals and present them to females to impress them in courtship displays.
