Superb Fairywren Enamel Pin
Superb Fairywrens range from the central east coast of Queensland down the Australian East coast to Tasmania. They are found in dense undergrowth in areas of woodlands, forests, low shrub land and are also a common appearance in leafy urban gardens where they can be seen darting around and singing in low lying bushes. Male Superb Fairywrens have light blue foreheads, cheeks and napes with bands of black in-between. They have a dark blue-black throat and the rest of their body is a light grey to mousey brown with long blue tail feathers. These colors can brighten and dullen depending on breeding activity. Females and juveniles differ as they are majoritarily light grey/brown with orange beaks. You'll quiet often see one male with a group of brown juveniles or females. Come the breeding season, Superb Fairywrens form mating pairs however these couples also mate with others and will help raise young in groups. We perched this little guy on some native kangaroo paw to compliment his design.
Fun Fact: Males will pick yellow flower petals and present them to females to impress them in courtship displays.
