Known for their signature wedge-shaped tail and long full feathered legs, the Wedge-tailed Eagle is Australia's largest bird of prey, with an average wingspan of 2.5m. This beautiful bird is commonly found across mainland Australia, Tasmania, and parts of Papua New Guinea.

A protected species in Australia, the Wedge-tailed Eagle is still shot and poisoned by farmers and are at threat of habitat loss due to tree-clearing. They are also considered endangered in Tasmania.

Did you know? The Wedge-tailed Eagle gets darker with age. Young eagles will have light brown feathers while the old adults can have almost black feathers.
