The Grey Butcherbird (Cracticus torquatus) is a medium-sized songbird found across most of Australia, known for its hooked black-tipped beak and dark tail with white tips. These intelligent hunters are a common sight in eucalypt forests, suburban gardens and parks, and they have one of the most beautiful songs in the Australian bush.

We’ve perched our butcherbird on Red Flowering Gum (Corymbia ficifolia), a small tree native to the south-west of Western Australia.

Fun fact: The butcherbird gets its name from its habit of storing food by wedging or impaling prey, like insects, lizards and small birds, on sharp twigs, thorns or tree forks, a bit like a butcher hanging meat.
