Scaly-breasted Lorikeet Hard Enamel Pin

Scaly-breasted Lorikeets (Trichoglossus chlorolepidotus) are native to the east coast of Australia, where their green and gold plumage makes perfect camouflage among the leaves of woodland trees. Like all lorikeets, their tongues are tipped with tiny brush-like bristles that help them lap up nectar and pollen from flowers.

We’ve perched this lorikeet on native gum blossoms from the Forest Red Gum (Eucalyptus tereticornis).

Fun fact: Scalies are often found feeding alongside flocks of Rainbow Lorikeets, as they share the same habitats and love the same flowering trees.
